Title Third Rolling Support for Bullock Cart

Abstract

Details "The team felt the Bullock’s pain Dr. Supriya Sagar More belongs to rural background, so she had an exposure to the problem faced by the communities. She holds a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering and has been an academician for the last 12 years. She and her students, Mr. Bhosale Saurabh Krushnarao, Mr. Mirajkar Omkar Murlidhar, Mr. Tipayale Nikhil Sitaram, Mr. Gaikwad Akash Namdev and Mr. Kadam Akash Appasaheb sensed the problem faced by bullocks transporting sugar and the cart owners. So, they visited many factories, sugar cane farms, and factory animal hospitals, to understand the problem in depth. They found that, while loading the cart with sugarcane in the field, the workers face problems like breaking of support on the ground, overloading causing slipping of legs of the bullock on speed breakers, stones on the roads, twisting of the legs, and sometimes leg fractures. This leads to injury to the bullocks as well as financial loss to the cart driver. Small accidents during the transportation of sugar cane from farm to sugar factories lead to heavy loss of the cart owner. There are a total of 732 co-operatives and privately owned sugar mills in India producing 339 Lakh Metric Tons of sugar every year. An average of 30% of sugar cane transportation is done using bullock carts. Accidental injury or fatal incident causes 1.5-2 lakh per cattle loss with no income of the seasoned/year for that family. The Rolling idea The team analysed the change in the Center of gravity of the bullock cart in all possible cases like loaded and unloaded carts at all possible static and dynamic conditions. Considering the above, they developed third rolling support which can be fitted at the center of front axel between two bullocks. The solution is very simple and used as an extra attachment to existing bullock carts. There is provision of wheel turning and turning lock to control direction and height adjustment can be possible up to 30cm. The solution can reduces up to 80 % load from Bullock’s neck, keeps the Bullock Cart balanced on road irregularities. It damps the jerks due to sudden load transfer due to path holes and off-road rides. The cost effective solution (max cost up to 10,000) makes is accessible to the cart owners The Impact The concept is being appreciated by farmers, workers, and laborers on the ground. Many NGOs and technical societies are ready for handholding and implementation of the solution on the field. Sugar factory management is approaching the institute for demonstration of product. Till Now institute has received request for 100 demo products of the solution from various sugar factories and farm equipment traders. Award & Recognitions Due to the ingenuity of the solution, the innovation has been granted product Patent by Indian Patent Office, Patent No.534394. Dr. Supriya has received the Best Teacher Award by Giants Group of Islampur, Maharashtra. They have also been felicitated by Dr. C.N. Deshpande, President of Jaywant Sugars. LTD, two wheeler motor mechanics Association-Karad, National Youth Council of India-Maharashtra Section, Animal Rahat-NGO for animal welfare."
