"Fowl Pox Cure using Herbs
Gula Ping
Bishnupada, Baham GP, Jujomura Block, Sambalpur District
Gula Ping w/o Kesab Ping belonging to the ST (Mirdha) community has 32 backyard poultry, out of which 25 poultry were suffering from FowlPox. For their treatment, she collected the juice from Aloe vera and mixed it with turmeric (Curcuma longa ), and used it on
the wounds. First, she cleaned the wounds with the soda water and used the mixture paste on the wounds. She also mixed the Aloe Vera and turmeric with rice and provided it to the birds to eat
and advised them to be kept separated from the diseased birds. Gula practiced this for
4 days and the birds were cured and went outside for grazing. After listening to the success story from Gula Ping, Menaka Balua w/o Indrajit Balua of Village
Khasupali of Baham GP, Jujomura Block, Sambalpur District treated forty-six of her backyard poultry suffering from Fowl Pox. (Ref: Yasmin, A.R. et al. “Herbal extracts as antiviral agents.” Feed Additives (2020): 115–132. doi:10.1016/B978-

Kalpana Mirdha, W/o Susanta Mirdha belonging to the ST community is a regular participant in the Honey Bee Network discussion in the local Odia language and Pathe Pathshala Workshop as a learner in the herbal treatment of livestock.
K a l p a n a noticed that two out of her eighteen sheep were not eating or showing interest to eat during g r a z i n g for almost
two days.
She made
a paste of 10 g of
Jeera (Cumin), two handfuls of Bitter Gourd leaves, 10 g of Ginger, two spoonfuls of Turmeric, 10 nos Black Pepper and mixed with 50 g of sugar cane molasses to prepare a bolus. She offered this bolus to the ailing sheep two times a day to eat for three days. After three days, Kalpana informed Pathe Pathshala that she is extremely happy with the outcome of this low-cost herbal tonic made by herself. She shared this knowledge with other farmers as well.
