Title Barking the right tree, keeps the crop pest free

Details 25301 Ash of Tamarind bark to cure Diarrhoea in animals Sometimes an animal eats too much fresh fodder or rotten grain or stale food, resulting in diarrhoea. It is accompanied by a foul smell and if the situation worsens blood or pus is also found. Manjulaben uses Tamarind bark to prevent this situation. She takes the ash of 500 g of dried bark of TamarindusindicaL. She mixes well two table spoons full of ash in 300 ml water and gives orally to the animal twice a day for two days. She learnt this practice from her father. Precaution: Do not feed green grass to cattle during such a condition. Water should be given four to five times a day to the animal. Manjulaben Dhirubhai Patel Village Kathvadi, District Valsad Scout: RamjibhaiDabhi 25302 Leaf curl in Brinjal Leaf curl is a major problem in a Brinjal (Solanummelongena L.) crop. In misty and cloudy climates, sucking pest infestation generally is found to be more of a problem. New leaves and flowers fail to grow. Crops almost fail in this condition. MukeshbhaiRabari uses a mixture of Indian oleander (Neriumindicum Mill.), Akda (CalotropisproceraAit.), cow urine and algae. He grinds together 2.5 kg leaves of Calotropisprocera and 2.5 kg leaves of Indian oleander (NeriumindicumMill.) and adds 10 litre water which is heated on a slow flame. After cooling, 2.5 litre of Cow urine and one kg of algae are added. This solution is kept for 24 hours. After filtering, 500 g of the solution is pump sprayed over the plants with the leaf curl problem. New leaves and flower soon emerge. This practice is continued three times a day every alternate day for a week for about six days. Neighbouring farmers have seen the effectiveness of this practice and are prepared to implement it on their farm. Care should be taken that the Algae is soaked for 24 hours to ensure its proper extraction in the solution. Spraying early in the morning gives better results. While ( spraying care should be taken that whole plant is wetted by the solution. Rameshbhai Amthabhai Rabari and Hiteshbhai Rameshbhai Rabari of this village already use this practice and have achieved better results on their farms. Innovator Mukeshbhai Rabari has 5 bigha of land, on which he cultivates vegetables and fodder for cattle. He has studied up to 3rd std only. In the past 32 years, Mukeshbhai has had the hobby of reading about new things and experimenting various ways of organic cultivation of crops.
