25201 Ingoriya for pest-free farm
To keep his produce pest free, Chhaganbhai crushes 5 kg Neem and 150 g Ingoriya (Balanites roxburghii Del.) fruits and boils in 70 litres of water. A detergent is used as a surfactant while boiling. The solution is prepared once a year and stored in an airtight drum. When required, he sprays 500 ml of the solution mixed in 15-litres of water. This helps in keeping his crops pest free. Many farmers in the area seek Chhaganbhai’s guidance for protecting their produce from pest damage.

25202 Vegetable oil for stomach disorders
Many a time, an animal develops bloat after the consumption of rotten food or too much green grass. Devkaranbhai relieves the animal of the problem by feeding it with 400-500 g vegetable oil and 25 g silk-cotton (Bombax ceiba L.) once a day.

25204 Cactus, desert date boon for farmers
When Juvansinh notices red spots on the leaves of his crops, he crushes 2 kg each of cactus leaves and desert date fruits (Balanites roxburghii Del) and adds one litre of water,
boils it till decoction is reduced to 500 ml and sprays it on the crops for five to six days. The red spots are believed to disappear.

25205 Prevent pests from damaging maize crop
Vikrambhai extracts the juice of three kg of onion (Allium cepa L.) in half a litre of water. After filtering it in a piece of cloth, he sprays the solution on his maize crop for a few days. This prevents pests from destroying the produce on his one-acre smallholding before the harvest season.

25206 Calotropis cures eczema
Karnabhai fills eight to ten hollow stems of crown flower (Calotropis procera (Aiton) W.T.Aiton) with black pepper and heats them up. Then he removes the black pepper (Piper nigrum L.) and grinds it into a paste using Indian beech (Millettia pinnata (L.) Panigrahi syn. Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre) oil. The paste is applied to the affected part of the animal suffering from eczema (skin disease), twice a day for a period of four to five days.

25209 No longer any breathing trouble
A blood clot in the camel’s nose leads to swelling and breathing problems. For this, Padhiyar grinds purple heabane/ironweed (Vernonia anthelmintica L.) seeds and filters them with a cotton cloth. He inserts a thin pipe into camel’s nostrils to pass the powder. The swelling clears after the animal sneezes and breathes properly.

Khantbhai grinds 500 g teak (Tectona grandis L.f.) bark and one kg Indian bdellium (Commiphora wightii (Arn.) Bhandari) leaves. The animal is made to eat this so as to prevent congestion in its lungs, he says. It has to be fed twice a day for three days.
