Abstract |

Details |
" 311201 Leaf Curl: Milk and lemon: The problem of Leaf Curl can take place due to sucking pests or through viral attack spread through white flies acting as vector. Chhaganbhi uses milk and lemon to control viral attack. To tackle this problem, Chhaganbhai uses milk and lemon. Fill the pesticide tank with one litre of goat’s milk and 14 litres of water. Then add juice of two to three lemons into the tank. Using this solution, one can quickly control the Leaf Curl virus in the crops. For better results repeat this process at 6-day interval (see HB, 1992 Vol. 3(2):2, also see https://anilg.sristi.org/milk-as-prevention-of-viral-diseases- like-tmv-hiv-andtthe-economists-says-so-so-trust-it-at-least- now-article-in-honey-bee-in-1992-was-not-good-enough/)

311202 Aphid: Limboli (Azadirachta Indica) and Ingori (Balanites roxburghii)
Chhaganbhai suggests that when any crop is infested with Aphid, take 5 kg dried Azadirachta Indica and make a powder out of 150 seeds of Ingori (Balanites aegyptiaca). Add these two things to 75 litres of water. Add five litres cow urine to this solution too. Keep this solution aside for 15 days. Then spray 500 ml of this solution diluted in 15 l water at a time on the crops to control Aphid

311203 Aphid: Ajwain (Carum copticum), Hing and Cow Urine
To control Aphid, the farmer suggests use of 100 gram of Ajwain, 500 gram of cow urine and 20 gram of powdered hing (asafoetida). Make a solution by adding all these to 75 litre of water. Keep this solution aside for 8 to 10 days and spray on the crops directly to get rid of Aphid

Karamshibhai has been pursuing organic farming for the past one decade. Besides this, he displays an amazing innovative spirit to develop and experiment with low cost farming. He shares his knowledge openly with other farmers. Here are some of his experiments:
311204 The problem of weeds in organic farming particularly in coriander
Organic farmers regularly face difficulties with weeds especially after harvesting coriander and cumin crops. To control weeds, he suggests making a solution using 10 l cow urine, one kg cow dung, 250 g crystal sugar and 50 g calcium carbonate with 5 litres of water. Filter this solution and spray on the weeds to get effective results. However, the farmer warns that this procedure should be done before sowing coriander or cumin. This is because weeds grow faster than these crops and spraying this solution on these crops may affect them adversely. Hence, care should be taken to spray this solution before sowing.
(The vinegar and lime besides baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) have been tried by organic farmers for weed control around the world for a long time: see https://abcofagri.com/best-homemade- stuff-weed-control/; Eds.)
311205 Ratanjyot (Jatropha curcas) for Sucking Pest or Leaf Curl
To control sucking pest or leaf curl, use of Ratanjyot leaves. Take 5 kg Ratanjyot (Jatropha) leaves and boil in 20 litres of water. Take 200 ml of this solution in 15 l water and spray on the crops.
The same solution can be used even to tackle white fly by adding 200 ml solution with 50 g of salt in 15 litres of water.
Besides this spraying cow urine and wood ashes on the crops may help get rid of Leaf Curl.

311206 Bhukhi Chharo: Bajra flour (Pearl millet flour) and Arni (Clerodendrum Multiflorum)
In crops like cumin, aniseed and coriander, there are difficulties like Bhukhi Chharo. Take 11 l of sour buttermilk, 1 kg of bajra flour and extract of one kg Arni leaves. Mix all these ingredients and let it rot in an airtight container for 7 days. After a week, take 200 ml of this solution and spray on the crops to get rid of Bhukhi Chharo and even earthworms.
311207 Heliothis: Aloe Vera and Custard Apple seeds
Boil five kg leaves each of neem and aloe vera leaves with 500 gms tobacco in 20 litres of water. Boil till it reduces to one fourth of the volume. Dilute about 200 to 300 ml of this solution in 15 l water and spray it on the crop to get rid of Heliothis. Now since tobacco is not allowed, custard apple seeds are used instead of tobacco.

311208 Pulses and Buttermilk based growth promoter
For good development of the crop and increased production the farmer suggests use of various pulses. Take 500 gms of chickpea, soyabean, pigeon pea, black gram, green gram and wheat. Soak all these ingredients in water for 30 to 40 hours and let it sprout. Add 5 litres of water to these sprouted grains and make a coarse paste. Add 75 l of water and 2.5 l of sour buttermilk to this paste to prepare a solution. This solution should be filtered and sprayed directly on the crop to increase its production too.

311209 Leaf Curl: Cow milk and Turmeric
Add one litre of cow milk and 50 gms of turmeric and spray on the crops to control Leaf Curl. Before mixing turmeric, it is added to one litre of water and filtered through a fine cloth so that it does not clog the spray nozzle.

311210 Saravalu (Mastitis) in cattle: Raw Banana and Lemon
According to the farmer, when the cattle has mastitis infection in the udders locally called Saravlu, it may pass pus and blood in the milk. The udder gets swollen, infection spreads in the other udder and at times even the cattle may totally stop giving milk.
The farmer uses raw banana and lemon. Mix 2 kg raw banana, 1 kg of lemon with 50 gms of Alum and feed it to the cattle twice a day for two to three days to relieve the cattle from the infection.
Further, in Valabhai’s opinion, if the cattle’s udder has swelling frumentacea) leaves and castor oil. The procedure involves taking 100 g of Banti leaves in a mud vessel, close the vessel tightly and then heat it. This will ensure one gets pure ash from the Banti leaves. Mix this ash with castor oil to make a balm and apply this on the affected udders of the cattle twice a day for two to three days.
311211 Loose motions in cattle: Bili leaves (Aegle marmlos)
When the cattle suffer from loose motions, Valabhai suggests use of Bili leaves. Take one kg of Bili leaves and make a paste using 2 litres of water. Filter this solution with a cloth and feed 1 litre to the affected cattle.

311212 Saravalu (Mastitis) in cattle: Aloe Vera, Turmeric and Ragatrayda (Tecomella undulata) leaves
Take 500 g of Aloe Vera Gel, 100 g of turmeric, 500 g of Ragat Raydo leaves (Tecomella undulata) and grind them to a paste. Add 1 l water to this paste and filter it. Feed 500 g of this solution to the cattle twice a day for three to four days to cure it of Saravalu.
The paste remaining after filtering out the solution should be applied to the udder of the cattle twice a day.
311213 Loose motion in Cattle: Jhenjhi, Timru (Diospyros peregrine) and Veval leaves
The farmer suggests use of bark of Jhenjhi, bark of Timru (Riber Ebony/Indian Persimon) and Veval leaves. Mix all these ingredients with finely chopped raw banana and chickpea flour. Feed this mixture to the cattle twice a day for three days to relieve loose motions.

Loose motion in cattle: Ratanjyot (Jatropha curcas) and Khakhra (Butea monosperma)
Powder 150 g each of bark of Ratanjyot and Khakhra. Add 10 g of tea leaves to this powder and mix it with 400 ml of water. Give it to the affected cattle twice a day for two days to cure loose motions.
If the loose motions are accompanied by bleeding, Khumaji suggests using 200 g of Tamarind bark and 100 g of roasted tamarind seeds. Grind these two ingredients to a powder and add 400 g water to make a solution. Feed 200 grams of this solution to the cattle for two days to provide relief in bleeding accompanied by loose motions.
