Destiny of Drops |

Details |
The dark clouds in the sky released a few, early pioneers. These drops, nine in number, began a conversation about their favoured, destined journeys. Each wanted to be proclaimed the “queen drop”, the drop with the best answer in terms of its choice of its destined journeys.
The first drop expressed her desire to fall into an oyster’s mouth and become a pearl that would adorn the necklace of the beautiful goddess of compassion, Kali. The second drop said that she would rather fall on the forehead of a worker and provide some respite to the hardworking man who had been toiling the entire day. The third drop wanted to quench the thirst of the parched earth that had dried up as a result of a drought.
The fourth drop was of a more poetic temperament. She said that she would rather swing on the edge of the tendril of a creeper outside the window of a poet. The poet would have been waiting to write his next poem which would describe the precarious balance of faith in this world where people often lose the urge to trust each other even when so much joy comes to those who trust. The fifth drop had no interest in poetry, nor was she bothered about the drought. She wanted to fall into a frozen lake so that she could retain her form forever.
Then, a shy and timid drop spoke up. She wanted to fall into a drain. All the other drops were shocked. Why would she wish to fall into a drain? She would only end up carrying waste, or saltish water from the field, or water full of pesticide residues. After some time, the seventh drop expressed her wish : to fall into a river, meandering and exploring different banks, but not belonging to any one. The eighth drop was mischievous. She said that she wished to soak the chick pea whole grains kept out for drying by a newly wed lady. The lady would feel bad initially. But, later when the family would enjoy the nutritious sprouts, she would feel happy. The ninth drop was more concerned about the prickly heat that bothers children. She wanted to fall on children who would feel better when the cool drop falls on them as they dance in the rain.
