Title Healing herpes and mixed skin infection

Details A typical skin infection (both herpitic and mixed infection) that often affects children is locally known as alati. Kalicharan Sahu, an 80 year old farmer in Palahara (sub division of Angul district) and a well known local herbal healer treats cases of alati with the flowers of Woodfordia floribunda. He dries the flowers in the sun and then makes a powder out of them. This powder is applied on the infected skin wounds which are reported to heal within five to six days. The use of Woodfordia floribunda in curing herpes finds mention in http://www.holistic-online.com/Herbal-Med/_Herbs/h143.html (Leaves of the plant are reportedly used to cure blisters, bruises, swellings etc., in India; Tiwari V J, Padhye M D (1993), 'Ethnobotanical study of the Gondh tribe of Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts of Maharashtra state, India', Fitoterapia, 64(1):58-61. :NAPDB) See Honey Bee 11(2):13, 2000; HB 9 (4):7, 1998
