"Rajagopala Kaipangala is a farmer in Kasaragod district, Kerala. He is involved in cultivation of Areca-nut, Coconut, Banana, Breadfruits, Passion fruits, and various other medicinal plants and vegetables. He constantly faced the problem of wild animals attacking his fields and destroying the crop. Monkeys and wild boars being the common ones. He tried various techniques to save his field but always failed.
The government has issued orders to kill wild boars in the area but the farmers are hesitant to follow the practice.
On September 2016, Rajagopala innovated a solution
to his problem by installing a four-way light unit in his fields. Though it was difficult to install the light unit across all the boundaries of the field but it proved to be beneficial.
In August 2017, the District Officer of Kerala Forest Department, Shri Rajeevan M. approached him to help in tackling the wild elephant menace. He supplied four units. Shri Rajeevan reported it to be effective and said, “The elephants were observed avoiding the route with the installation”
