"Request to get Associated with SRISTI
Pranjal Phukan
pranjalk.phukan@bcplindia.co.in
I am interested in getting attached to SRISTI for various activities related to innovations in business development for prospective entrepreneurs in Plastic industries.
I am a senior management professional with 20 years of experience.
I would like to request an opportunity to serve the purpose of educating Entrepreneurs of North East India who are interested in getting involved in setting up Industries, particularly Plastic industries.
Kindly send me the details on how I can get attached to your reputed organizations.
Many many thanks for your offer to volunteer for Honey Hee Network in Northeast. Most of our innovators are weak in supply chain management, they don’t perform the standard component analysis, whereas, try to fabricate every component by themselves. Thus, leading to increasing in cost, reduction in standardization, and thus delay in delivery, due to which they suffer from after-sales service problems. We can always discuss it further. –Ed.
Protecting the Native Bees: A study
Agui
asantos@ufpr.br
In the last meeting, I was told about the book, “Landscape of Love”. This year we started a project to protect native bees that survive in the urban environment of Brazilian cities. Our goal is to design open-source solutions, directed to digital fabrication, focusing on native stingless bees. Brazil has more than 300 species already identified. In our team, we are bringing the bee experts from our region, stingless bee honey producers, and the local government with a short-term goal to develop one design solution for each type of bee. Without any funding from any organization, this project started to grow and more and more people join our “Landscape of Love”.
This Tuesday we presented the project to a local school where we are going to implement the first prototype. Illustrations were presented to guide the students through the entire process, from your words of inspiration (the Indian professor on the illustration
01 is how the student imagine you!) until prototyping.
I have to say to you that the world of bees is much more sophisticated and intelligent than our “civilized” urban societies. So, my friend, your “Landscape of Love” has crossed the ocean and now you have a little branch in Brazil.
What a great beginning of the day today. Nature will bless you all, more than that the bees’ blessings will make all the children more curious about the metaphorical Honey Bee Network too.
Bees are not only more intelligent but also most generous beings on Earth. Wish, we could acquire a fraction of their generosity. Flowers from whom they take nectar don’t feel shortchanged, don’t stint, don’t complain; instead, they invite them with different colours, bees are the fertilizer of nature’s (and are no less) imagination. That’s why we took inspiration from bees and started cross-pollination of people’s Innovations and knowledge. I hope you are using a non-destructive method of honey extraction, let no bee die, please.
Now people have developed multi-layer bee boxes so that one queen bee can nurture multiple colonies. Local bee species are under threat due to the destruction of their habitats (bushes) and thus please try to simultaneously persuade landscape architects to leave small spaces un-tended. Wilderness spots in urban gardens, buildings, grounds, even one sq. m. spaces will let local weeds and fauna grow for future. Local Bees need local flora. They travel up to 8kms in search of food, I’m sure experts and children will co-discover bees’ social organization.
There is a very old book written by a South African entomologist called, “the soul of an ant” about another intelligent insect – white ants, termites. Will be great to let children do research on bee behavior and write a joint research Article. During last 3-4 years, I’m getting fascinated by the ability of school children to do research, frame inquiry and solve problems. I’m sure some kids will get bugged by the question as to how do bees dance on the flowers, how do they know that these flowers have nectar worth picking some, and how does their dance give a signal to other bees. Once one bee identifies futility of sitting on a flower, other bees get a message. The language of bees is very interesting. Landscapes of love, I’m sure will flourish by what you all doing
All power to your team and through you to children researchers. Can’t wait enough to read children’s research report on the benign bees, bewildering bees or even bees that sting when we violate their space.
All the best; keep expanding, nourishing and fertilizing the landscapes of love. Thanks to Ursula for making all this happen, the queen bee!!!. –Ed.

Solution to Bermuda Circle and Terrorism: Youth Insight
Aryan, Kushagra, Satyam Kumar, Vishwajeet
aryan551551@gmail.com
We are students of standard 10th and we have found a way by which we will be able to solve the mystery of Bermuda triangle.
We are well aware of the reasons behind such happenings in Bermuda Triangle and have designed a device which can click pictures of Bermuda triangle, by going inside it. Also, our research includes a solution to stopping cross-border terrorism. This could be by creating an artificial Bermuda triangle on the border. So, it will be helpful for the army.
We lack proper guidance to getting on how to push forward this research.
It is aspiring to see how magnificently young India is shaping up. I could feel the zeal you young boys hold towards your research and appreciate the same. Our best wishes for your research. –Ed.
The Age Tiff: Passion or Duty?
Samrat Chakrabarty
sam.chak007@gmail.com
I am currently working as Country Manager for India’s 2-Wheeler manufacturer company in the Philippines. As I am getting older my conscience and my knowledge asks me to do what I am good at and have a passion for. What drives me is Innovation for social improvements, simple innovation impacting common people. I would like to share my Profile such that I can get your guidance on how I can be of any use of this ‘Grassroot Innovation’ movement. I prefer to call it a ‘Movement’.
Please let me know what role I can play in this. I am OK to go 100% with it.
Dear Samra, very happy to hear from you. Let us begin with an area where you might have the expertise and also contacts. We have many innovations in compressed air vehicles but none could be developed into a product. Would you like to mentor these innovators with suggestions a way ahead?
We also have a three-wheel carrier for motorized wheelchair and that also needs to be polished at GIAN. Let me know how do you think you can contribute. –Ed.
A Dream Come True: A Teacher’s Praise for IGNITE
Rachita Kotwal
rachita250@gmail.com
I feel on cloud nine to be connected to you. I read an article of yours in Dainik Bhaskar. I am a chemistry lecturer at Montgomery Guru Nanak Public School, Jalandhar. Since last year, I have been motivating my students to raise their thinking power & express their creativity through innovative ideas. As a result, out of 550809 entries of IGNITE awards competition this year, near about four hundred were from M.G.N students. No doubt they could not be among those impeccable 30, but still, I feel they will definitely be there one day. The path, our worthy Missile Man, has built for them; The platform, you have provided them with, will make their vision clearer and stronger.
There is not even a single day in school or at home when I don’t discuss IGNITE or NIF. This has become a passion and pride for me which my colleague ‘s envy. Recently, N. Raghuvaran"s article in Dainik Bhaskar also included information on IGNITE awareness. Also, do I keep quoting examples of the winners of IGNITE awards during my class. This is my way of encouraging my students for IGNITE.
Technically, I might be a little weak, have never corresponded through email, so kindly ignore my mistakes. Today I feel my dream has come true.
I don’t know how can I serve Honey Bee Network, so you please guide me accordingly & oblige. Looking forward to your support.
You are already a volunteer of HBN and also IGNITE. I am so happy that you have sent so many entries to IGNITE this year, keep it up and help us search new innovations, spread good ideas to other schools, search for examples on social, cultural innovations also. –Ed.
