Details "282354 Use of Khativel against Gandhati Con-sumption Consumption of Gandhati (Lantana camara) causes skin allergy and constipation among animals. This makes them uncomfortable. Dineshbhai uses medicine prepared by mixing 500g of crushed Khativel (Ampelocissus africana) roots, water, 500g cooking oil and 100-200ml of Aritha water. It is given to the affected animal over next two days. Dineshbhai Virabhai Khant, Village: Jalampur Khantfaliyu, P.O. Navagam, Taluka: -Meghraj District: Arvalli Khativel is a root vegetable, similar to Yam with fruits like grape clusters and leaves like those of beans. During monsoons, the plant comes out like a creeper. Juice of Khativel root has also been reported effective in reducing swelling after the cattle got poisoned by gandhati (HB, 16(2):16, 2005). 282355 Aloe Vera and Dhatura for White Grab Chemical fertilizers are not cost-effective for farmers therefore, Virabhai introduced various methods using Aloe vera and Dhatura to protect groundnuts from the white grab. Method 1: Aloe vera leaves (2Kg) and Dhatura leaves/fruit (1kg) are mixed with Groundnut crop. Method 2: Small pieces of Aloe vera leaf and Dhatura are mixed with 8litres of water and stored in a plastic container for eight days. Then the mixture is filtered. 1litre of the mixture diluted with 15litres of water is sprayed at the ground-level in Groundnut crop. The procedure should be repeated twice with a day’s interval. From this method, a reduction of white grab on groundnut crop could be noticed without any side effects. This increases the growth promotion activity of groundnut crop. Method 3: For pest control, 1.5kg of leaves of each Karen, Neem, Dhaturo and aloe vera are mixed to 2litres of sour buttermilk and 8litres of water. The mixture is packed for eight days in a plastic container. Afterwards, it is filtered and 500ml of this mixture is diluted with 15litres of water. The procedure is repeated twice in 6-7 days. The method can control Heliothis and caterpillar attack. Spray in morning for good results. Virabhai Rambhai Chosa, Village: Rahij, Taluka: Mangrole District: Junagadh Pin: 362225 Dhatura also helps in preventing green worm (HB, 9(3):15, 1998). 282356 Kuri effective against Agiya Agiya (Witch Weed) is a type of weed that grows near the roots of the crop and damages it. Once the weed starts growing, it is difficult to control. Babubhai used Kuri to control weed growth which proved to be beneficial. Another farmer in village Ranchhod Pura experimented Kuri with tobacco crop to control the weed. Babubhai Shivabhai Otiya, Place: Dasaj, Ta- Unja, District: Mahesana Scout: Jignesh Solanki For more practices on controlling weed, refer to HB, 3(1):10, 1992; 8(4):16, 1997; 6(3):9, 1995. 282357 Diarrhoea-curing Shimlo Saybabhai Shakrabhai Patel mixes crushed Shimlo (200g) and sour tamarind(200g) with 500litres water to cure animals suffering from diarrhoea. After application, the bone must be supported with the help of bamboo strips and double layers of cotton cloth. Keep the dressing as it is for a duration of 20-25 days.
