"282344 Safety Helmet for Welding Usually, welders have to hold the shielding mask with the other hand while welding. This is both difficult and dangerous, especially while doing overhead welding. The Safety Helmet is designed with a mechanism in which the eye shield of the helmet is controlled by biting the lever (tension spring) attached to the helmet. This enables full security and is a hands-free device. Joseph Peechanatu, Ghandinag, Kothamangalam Ernamkulam, Kerala Similarly, Ranjit developed a safety hood for welder’s safety. (HB, 16(1):24, 2005)
282345 Loop Weeder The Loop Weeder is used for removing the weeds in-between the transplanted paddy seedlings. This weeder plucks or removes weeds up to 4 cm deep in the paddy field and pushes the separated weeds into the soil to convert into bio-manure. The process will till the soil around the paddy, that results in better aeration and growth. Mahesh Sukumaran, Varrikat House, Rajakumari North
282346 Machine to Trigger Milking of Cow Thomas developed an electronic/battery operated device to trigger the milking process of the cow. Whenever the milk flow is less, the machine could be applied to the udder. The device works with 3-volt battery. A number of milking machines are available in the market. Their cost varies from 16,000 to 1.5 lakhs or even more, depending on the capacity of the machine. Thomas developed a cost-effective solution. Mansukhbhai Jagani and V.A. Johny too developed a low-cost milking machine (HB, 11(4) and 12(1): 29; 2000-2003; 15(4):4-9, 2004) V A Thomas, Kattakayam, Chakampumzha PO, Pala, Kottayam
2823347 Amaranthus Variety Mahesh made an effort to identify and propagate a special variety of Amaranthus. It is both delicious in taste and beautiful with leaves of a peculiar shape. 1. Removing the bark of mango tree may trigger the yielding of mango. 2. Urine of rabbit is good for amaranthus for vigour growth. 3. Kanthari (small variety of chilly with good pungency) mixed with urine of rabbit and bar soap when diluted with water acts as a good bio-pesticide for vegetables. 4. Ground Ginger and allium, diluted with water is another good bio-pesticide for vegetables. Mr Mahesh Sukumaran, Varikkat House, Rajakumari North, Idukki Amaranthus is reported useful for curing nasal infection among calves (HB, 10(4):15,1999), helps reduce swelling and body temperature among humans. When fed to cows, it helps increase milk yield. (HB, 14(2):18, 2003) and also cures smallpox in poultry (HB 22(4) & 23(1) 40-41, 2012).
282348 Conservation of Jackfruit Varieties Sairabanu has scouted, identified, conserved and propagated more than 150 varieties of Jackfruits in her farm. Out of which, 25 percent of the collection is unique and possesses specific qualities. These unique varieties were developed by following seed propagation. She collected the seeds of good quality jackfruit from all over Kerala and Karnataka. These seeds were then planted and carefully observed seedlings showing unique qualities and variants. Through this process, she was able to identify 40 unique varieties of jack fruit. The varieties were cultivated through all the seasons and were bearing fruit for 6 to 10 months. She also used the grafting techniques to develop good quality jackfruits. Sairabanu, Thouganal House, Kavumkara, Market P O, Muvattupuzha, Pin 686673 Ernamkulam Jackfruit is beneficial against placenta (HB, 6(4):5, 1995) and for yeast formation (HB, 9(3):3, 1998). International studies have been conducted to develop practices to stimulate jackfruit growth. (HB, 9(3):25, 1998) " |
