Details |
For Forheen Ahmed, an eight-year-old girl from Sivasagar in Assam, the keypad and mouse of her computer are instruments of creating history. She has been recognized as a Computer whizkid since the age of four, having already mastered programs like C++, HTML, LINUX, and Java Programming, UML, XML, MS-Dos, Internet Logo, Photoshop, and Instant Artist and successfully cleared the relevant exams.
Born on 19th July, 2000, she is a student of 3rd standard of Sophy Mercy Memorial School, Sivasagar. When she was just two years old, his father, Motin Ahmed observed that she was trying to copy his clicks on the keypad of his computer. He started instructing her. Looking at little Forheen’s interest, the reluctant NIIT administrators also had to give her admission for Computer training. At the age of two and half years she completed NIIT “Sweet Smart” course and at the age of three she completed MS office and DTP course. She was already a computer mastermind at the age of four when the other children just learn to talk. She has been conferred the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement, 2004 from Shri Arjun Singh, Minister for the Union Human Resource Development.
Her feats have been getting her media attention and national appreciation. She hogged the limelight by setting another world record on 23rd May 2008, appearing for Sun Certified Programmer for the Java Platform, Standard edition 5.0 conducted
by Sun Micro-system and cleared it by securing 65 percent marks. She did this while she was just 7 years, 10 months and four days old, breaking the record of Afrah Shauqat who had done it at the age of
11 years.
Forheen’s three-year old sister Asaa always tries to push her into naughty acts. Dr Abdul Kalam is her idol and like him she wants to be a space scientist. She watches T.V, tinkers with the computers as her avocation. Her favorite story is of Cindrella. Apples and chocolates are boosters for her. She dines at 11 in the night so that she can study till late. She seems to know her priorities and does not like to lag in class performance by even a number. ERP, for a school prepared by her has won her admiration. Revenue Circle Office of Assam has issued her an Annual Income Certificate of Rs 25,000. Her message to her peers is to study hard and follow Swami Vivekanand’s words:
“Every person has lion in the heart
Oh! lion come up,…
Matter is our servant
We are not servant of the matter.”
Drishtee, an NGO has helped her by providing a computer. Since she has come on the radar of Honey Bee, the Network has been sustaining her. Darwin Institute in Guwhati has promised her a laptop and many other well wishers are slowly joining the effort to help her bring many more laurels to Assam and the country. We wish all the success to little Forheen, and hope that she will not stop finding time for all the games and pranks that make childhood such a wonderful time. |
