Title IGNITE the fire within!

Details IGNITE, the annual national creativity competition, is organized among school students up to 12th standard. It was started in 2007 to encourage children in finding solutions to various societal problems of everyday life (especially those faced by society’s disadvantaged sections). Students from as many as 25 states participated in the fifth competition of IGNITE (entries were invited from October 16, 2010 to September 10, 2011). The submitted entries dealt with a variety of problems in different sectors like energy, environment, transport, general household utility items and other social issues. Out of the 4104 entries received, 21 ideas of 32 students were selected. In most cases, patents were filed in students’name and prototypes were developed. The children were honoured by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on November 11, 2011 at IIM Ahmedabad. Dr Kalam urged the children to improve their individual abilities. He mentioned that creativity, righteousness, courage and indomitable spirit constitute the authentic spirit of a knowledge society. There exists a beautiful connectivity between heart, character, nation and the world. Righteousness and courage leads to a unique personality. He asserted that there should be righteousness in the heart and courage in the mind to think differently, invent, explore the uncharted path, discover the impossible, and to combat the challenges and finally succeed. He emphasized that the youth needs to have a mission in life and work for it. He also suggested that the children, along with their teachers or friends, should teach the kids in the slums during the holidays.
