Varikumatikal to prevent dehydration |
|
|
Abstract |
Farm animals require adequate water to overcome loss of body water due to high environmental temperature. The plant is fed as a protein supplement (Bhattacharya, 1990 & Mathur et al., (2000): Animal Feed Science and Technology, 29 (1-2):57-62) which promotes water intake. |

Details |
When animals stop taking water, the paste of root of varikumatikal or bitter cucumber (Citrulllus colocynthis (L.) Schrad.) is administered orally. This is also effective for blood dysentery in cattle and sheep.
