20214 Remote motor starter using mobile phone
Siddappa (farmer, 9th standard) has devised a panel board which can be used to operate pump sets in the fields. The panel board includes a phone set in which some numbers are saved. If he gives only one missed call to the saved numbers, the motor will be started. The numbers that are not stored in the mobile cannot be used to activate the pump set. Also, when the current is in single phase the mobile keeps on ringing but the motor does not start. When the motor starts, caller gets a call back.
He has been using this method successfully for a year. At first he wanted to connect a wire from the field (2 km) to his house to switches on/off the motor. He had also thought about auto starters, which the other farmers were using in the region. Auto starters activate the pump as and when the current is available. This method had the constraint of timing. Thus, to begin with, he thought of a device that could communicate to him the availability of current and the phase. The device costs Rs. 5000 and Siddappa wants to get it patented.
