Title Ecoentrepreneur by selling navakavya

Abstract Smt Indhira Gandhi (48) is a farmer in Singampatti village of Thirunelveli district. She, along with her husband, owns five acre of land where they grow flowers, vegetables and paddy. She has excelled in preparing organic liquid fertiliser with nine ingredients. She calls it ‘navagavya’ and sells about 1,200-1,400 litres of it every year. Smt Gandhi mixes a litre of milk and curd with 300 ml ghee, five litres of cow urine, a kilogram of cow dung, five bananas, and one litre of sugarcane juice, tender coconut water and neera. In the absence of neera, palm jaggery can also be added. To this mixture, she adds 25 g yeast to promote formation of worms in the liquid fertiliser. All the ingredients are mixed together and kept for 25 days. The resulting liquid is around eight litres in quantity. This can be used for spraying over the crops, 200 ml in 10 litres water. This can be sprayed two to three times in an interval of 15 days. This will boost growth in crops.
