Title Compost by Using Etti

Abstract Strychnos nux vomica L. not only increases the bulk of organic matter content but also controls rodents and termites (http://www.treesftf.org/resources/infomaterials/english/agroforestry_technologies/Termite%20control%20without%20 chemicals.pdf). Leaves of Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre is a well known green manure (www.microbiologyprocedure .com/.../green-manure.html). Among organic manures, Lantana vermicompost was found to be superior to congress grass and FYM in terms of nutrient composition as well as in increasing yield (http://www. indianjournals.com/ijor.aspx? target=ijor:ijar2&volume=42 &issue=4&article=00). Details Sekar and Ramar, use foliage obtained from etti (Strychnos nux vomica L.) leaves as green manure for raising paddy crop. They prepare a pit of six feet depth and fill it with leaves of etti tree, Lantana camara L. plant, Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre tree and layers of cowdung, allowed to decompose for six to ten months. Compost so made is used in dry lands where paddy or ragi are raised as a rainfed crop. Due to manuring with etti leaves, the aroma of rice is also believed to improve.
