Title Wound Infested With Maggots

Abstract Leaves of Strychnos nux-vomica L. are applied as poultice to sloughing wounds or ulcers when maggots have formed (Singh and Panda. (2005); Medicinal herbs with their formulations: 803. (http://books .google .co.in /books?i downloaded on 3.08.2009). Andrew Pengelly validated the use of virali among Australian aborigines for treating injuries, in her PhD work, 2008, (http://www.herbalschool.com.au/Docs/Hopbushresearch.pdf). Also see HB 11(3):9, 2000.

Details Arappeeswaran makes a paste out of the powder of bark of etti (Strychnos nux vomica L.) to clean the wounds infested with maggots in animals. For wounds with pus, after cleaning with sterilized cotton, he also applies fine paste of virali (Dodonaea angustifolia L.f.) for the purpose.
