Title Thrips Control by Snuff (Tobacco Powder)

Abstract Tobacco is also reported for thrips control (Horowitz, A.R. & Ishaaya, I. (Editors) 2004; Insect Pest Management in Field and Protected Crops. Springer, Berlin-Heidelberg-New York: 344 ). Also see HB 5(4): 13-14, 1994.

Details It is difficult to grow the crop of onion (Allium cepa L.) if it has been attacked by thrips (Chusiya Jivat). Due to insufficient growth, the total production is reduced considerably. Ajaybhai mixes 5 kg of bajar (snuff) properly in 15 litres water and sprays on the crop by diluting 500 ml of above mixture in 15 litres of water. Almost 50 percent of thrips can be controlled by the first spray and 80 to 90 percent by the second spray. Ajaybhai learnt this practice from other villagers and experimented it in his own fields.
