Title Using pest to make vermicompost

Abstract Another beetle of the same group assists in the decomposition of organic matter and aerating the soil (Sue, H. Bugs and grubs. Australian Insect Farm http://www.insectfarm.com.au/bugsgrubs.htm downloaded on 18.5.09)

Details Preparation of compost using grubs of Rhinoceros beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros). The beetle is a major pest of coconut plantation and causes extensive damage to young emerging leaves when not controlled properly. It lays eggs in cow dung heap. Divakaran uses fallen leaves of coconut and by-product of coir industry for making compost. The grubs are introduced into pits with coir pith and allowed to feed to produce compost. Thus, one can get compost as well as save coconut of the pest.
