Title Cow Urine to Keep Thrips away

Abstract The insecticidal properties of cow urine are well reported (www.compasnet.org/afbeeldingen/Books/Traditional%20Knowledge%20India/nene.pdf). The insecticidal properties of the plants used in formulation are also well studied.

Details A farmer, Parshottambhai Ranchhodbhai Sidpara believes in sharing his knowledge of organic farming so that others can adopt such practices. He believes that nothing equals the traditional wisdom of farmers who follow their instincts of experimentation and have the potential of achieving the unachievable. Thrips or Chusiya Jivat is an insect which feeds by puncturing and sucking the contents of plant and animal cells. It causes huge losses to crops. To get rid of it, Parshottambhai takes one kg leaves of each of ankado [Calotropis procera (Ait.) F. Ait], neem [Azadirachta indica A. Juss.], sitafal (Annona squamosa L.), Aloe vera (L.) Burm..f., Datura (Datura starmonium L.) and adds 25 litres of cow urine. Then he allows this to decompose. He filters the solution and the filtered solution is used, in the proportion of one liter per pump (15 litres) to spray on the affected plants.
