Abstract |
The smoke obtained by pouring latex over burning coal may have potential properties to cure oral ulcers and pain caused due to FMD virus as it is known to cure dermal wounds (Sumitra M, Manikandan P and Suguna L. (2005) .Int J Biochem & Cell Biol. 37(3):
566-73). |

Pohlabhai, 32, has studied till 5th standard. Agriculture and animal husbandry are his chief source of livelihood. He learned this practice from elders in the village.
Animal suffering from FMD has swellings on the feet and blood oozes out from the affected parts. Blisters develop in the hooves and mouth where pus develops at a later stage. The blisters also get infested by worms sometimes. The animal is not able to walk due to this. Pohlabhai uses palash [Butea monosperma (Lamk.) Taub., also called as flame of forest] to bring relief. He takes the gum of the palash tree and pours it on burning coal. The ailing animal is made to inhale this smoke twice daily for 5-10 days. |
