Title Control of Pests in Black Gram

Details Loganthan raises black gram in his garden. Black gram is usually infested with sucking pests like aphids, thrips or mites. Some times leaf cutting grubs are noticed. When he raised bhindi (lady's finger) (abelmoschus esculentus L.) crop in the bunds as mixed crop, he observed that whenever bhindi was raised, the pest incidence in black gram was considerably reduced. Bhindi acts as trap crop. He claims that insects and pests are attracted towards bhindi and black gram is thus saved. For every 100 black gram plants one bhindi plant is sufficient to act as trap crop. Growing bhindi (lady's finger) as trap crop with cotton also reduces the density of aphid population. Paulraj M.
