Name Yamunaben Yavaji Chauhan,

Address Samgahan, Ghutiyamal,

District Dist Dang

Title Repeat Breeder

Details If a cow fails to conceive even after two successive inseminations, in spite of no clinical abnormality being detected, it is called repeat breeder or “Pasu uthala marae”. Several causes, like an impaired uterine environment i.e. luteal deficiency to chronic degeneration or chronic endometrites, have been identified. However, in majority of the cases, bacterial infections have been reported to be the cause. To treat this, Yamunaben Yavaji uses the bark of bakul (Mimusops elengi L.). She grinds it and soaks 100g of it in water 100g each of sugar and fennel seeds for an hour. After straining it, she gives 300ml of the decoction to the affected cow for ten days. Mimosops elengi is reported to have antibacterial pentahydroxy flavons (Hazra, K. M.; Roy, R. N.; Sen, S. K. and Laskar, S. ( 2007): Isolation of Antibacterial Pentahydroxy Flavones from the Seeds of Mimusops elengi L., African Journal of Biotechnology, 6 (12): 446-1449).
