Abstract |
Mrs Mumtak Modi of Zarku village uses fruits of belchanaa (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) for treating dysentery. The fruits are ground to make a paste which is diluted with water to make a solution. About ten millilitres of the solution is given twice a day for two to three days for a complete cure.

Mrs Mumtak (33), is educated up to primary level. She is a housewife and has been engaged in treating various human health related ailments through herbal drugs.
Mucilaginous property of flowers of Hibiscus sabdariffa, may give relief from fever, dysentery and diarrhoea. Mr Susanta of village Tiltikuri mixes the ground powder of dry rind of dalim (Punica granatum L.) and bark of kurchi (Holarrhena anti-dysenterica Wall.) in the equal ratio. Two to three grams of this mixture is given twice a day for a week for complete cure of dysentery.

Mrs Choti Devi gives half spoonful of powdered pod of Sem (Lablab purpureus (L.) Sw.) with one glass of buttermilk once or twice a day for a couple of days to treat dysentery.
