Mr Venkatesh belongs to an agricultural family, and did an experiment in using Southern Cattail (Typha angustata L.) in organic farming. He found that this aquatic weed could be used for mulching, manure preparation, effective control of root grubs, and it also facilitates clean water in ponds. In case of its use as a mulch, soil moisture is maintained for longer time, cutting down the water and labor requirement. It also prevents the mite problem when added in the manure, and hence it is reported to be an effective biological pest control method. |
