Control of crabs in paddy |
Details |
Mr H V Krishnaiah controls crabs in his paddy field using blue green algae. Crabs make holes that drain the standing water in the fields and ultimately affect the crop area and yield potential. To avoid this problem, Mr Krishnaiah has developed a simple and cost effective method using BGA (Blue Green Algae), which is readily available in the fields with standing water. The pungent odor of the BGA repels the crabs and one can discourage crabs from entering their holes for up to one year by plugging their entrances with the algae. Usually this treatment is performed one month after paddy transplantation, i.e. in August. |
