Details NIF tied up with KSITM (Kerala State Information Technology Mission), an autonomous nodal IT implementation agency under the department of Information Technology, Government of Kerala, for promoting traditional knowledge and grassroots innovations through their IT infrastructure (Akshaya Centres) in Kerala. Both have agreed to work on the various projects through the formation of Kerala Innovation Foundation. The main objective of proposed teamwork is creation of Village Knowledge Registers (VKR) through the local bodies, digitization of traditional knowledge, documenting grassroots innovations, dissemination and conducting promotional programmes through the use of ICT infrastructure available in the state including, Akshaya Centres and regional educational institutions. The project, in addition, would enable ICT entrepreneur to generate additional income. Initially the database structure and content will be provided by NIF. KSITM, on its part, will develop software applications and tools in open source technologies. NIF – BSI Collaboration NIF (National Innovation Foundation) has joined hands with BSI (Botanical Survey of India), the nodal research organization supported by Ministry of Environment and Forests in authenticating the plant specimens received at NIF. BSI plays a major role in fulfilling nation’s commitments to various International conventions. It has expertise in exploring, identifying, creating inventories and documenting the rich diversity of plant resources. Both NIF and BSI have agreed to enter into a service agreement in order to add value to the existing traditional knowledge in NIF’s database. BSI, on its part has agreed to undertake identification of given plants up to species (taxon) which are claimed to have therapeutic value by grassroots knowledge healers of both contemporary and even traditional origin.
