Details Electricity Operated Kerogas Stove Shri Shantibhai Lavjibhai Hirpara, 77yrs old, Ahmedabad, worked for 22 years in a textile mill till it closed down. He is illiterate but has acquired special skills and still works in local power loom textile factory. Shri Shantibhai has two sons both of whom are married. His elder son runs a photography shop and the younger one is working in a fabrication shop. Pressure stoves and wick stoves are widely used in India. The pressure stoves generally have high consumption of fuel, wastage of heat, high maintenance cost. The greatest disadvantage of this type of stove is the risk of explosion which may cause lot of human injuries. Shri Shantibhai got the idea for making a non-pressure type stove 25 years ago. Initially he did not even know the difference between kerosene and gas. Once he learned about the gas produced by heating kerosene, he used a 15 Volt AC motor to blow the gas in the burner. There is a metallic coil connected to the battery which is heated up with the help of battery or low voltage current and converts kerosene into gas. He filed a patent and got some publicity. At that time, Balubhai, one of his acquaintances came forward to license his technology for one lac of rupees. Balubhi, reportedly did neither pay that amount and nor respected the licensing terms. He also registered a patent in his name despite a press notice by Shanti bhai. This stove does not blacken the vessels, ignites instantly with blue flame, saves fuel, and consumes only one unit if electricity of used for a whole day. All is not Lost Mr Ajay Deouskar, a young mentor who has conceptualised the idea of Plant Oil Stove to use Jatropha oil directly in the villages has paid INR 11,000/-(Eleven thousand only) and 40% share in the patent rights in the proposed technology of Plant Oil Stove. GIAN has also obtained 20% share in IPR rights in proposed technology of Plant Oil Stove to help GIAN to move towards self-sustainability. Paresh Panchal owning a small workshop has agreed to provide technical support to the innovator without charging any fees. The new prototype is expected to be completed before end of November 2006.
