Title Control of Root grub in lime

Details Leaves of ‘kochila’ (Strychnos nux-vomica L.) are mixed with cow dung and applied to lime to control root grubs. It is a preventive method to reduce root damage considerably. (Leaves of ‘kasaraka’ are mixed with cow dung and the mixture is applied as manure to the cardamom and lemon plants to destroy root grubs. Source: T S Hegde, North Kanara: comm: (Honey Bee, 8(2):8, 1997, http://www.sristi.org/karnataka.htm ) Control of Caseworm In some areas farmers put branches of ‘kalara’ plant (Bauhinia spp) and/or bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) in the affected paddy field to control case worm. It is reported to have given very good results. The ‘kalara’ leaves fall and decompose in the paddy field, when they produce a brown liquid that kills floating larvae in paddy field. (See A.G. Hajra and P. Chatterjee, 1996, Screening of bauhinia spp. for fungicidal, bactericidal and insecticidal properties in Allelopathy: Field Observations and Methodology: Proceedings of the International Conference on Allelopathy in Sustainable Agriculture, Forestry and Environment, September 6-8, 1994, New Delhi/edited by Shamsher S.
