Turmeric Cleaning Machine |
|
|
Details |
Mahesh Shrayan has developed a turmeric cleaning machine with a capacity of 25 kg. The machine cleans 25 kg of turmeric in 20 minutes. Turmeric is loaded in the inner drum made of coarse wire mesh. The drum is rotated by an electric motor, but can be hand-operated in case of power failure. Two inbuilt V-belt step pulleys give two speeds to the machine i.e., 160 or 310 revolutions per minute. The motor pulley is of 2/3 inch diameter (50.1/7.6 cm) and the driven pulley is of 14/18 inch diameter (35.6/45.7 cm). Using these pulleys the rotational speed of the drum can be controlled to meet specific needs.
Cost of the machine is approx INR 11,000 inclusive of the electric motor costing INR 7,000.
(Machine polishing: This method consists of an octagonal or hexagonal wooden drum mounted on a central axis and rotated by power http://www.kissankerala.net/kissan/kissancontents/turmeric.htm)

Efficient Cashewnut Sheller
Rajesh Raskar from Pune has developed an improved device that can break the shell of cashewnut better. The machine breaks the shell in two parts without damaging the kernel. It is manually operated but is designed in a way that protects the user from having a direct touch with the highly corrosive resin of the shell known as CSNL (Cashew Nut Shell Liquid). The oil contains 90% anacardic acid and 10% cardol. Contact with this oil harms the workers’ hands. The merit of this innovative machine lies in damage control and safe mode of operation rather than its production quantum.

Intercropping of Carrot with Onion to Obtain More Seeds
In order to get bumper crop of onion seeds, it is sown along with carrot. Both the species flower simultaneously and thus attract more pollinators than they can each do singly. This leads to increased seed production of both the species.
