Title Pongamia for Termite Control

Details In winters, the termites infest the fields, causing great harm. Dhanabhai takes 20 kg of dry leaves of Karanj i.e Pongamia glabra Vent. (synonym – P. pinnata L.) and 20 kg of goats’ excreta, puts these in the 2x2 feet ditch and covers with soil. Adding water to the mixture intermittently, he leaves the mixture to decompose for three-four days. After proper mixing, he pulverizes the partially decomposed mixture. During sowing, he mixes four kg of the mixture with 20 kg of seeds. This saves the seeds from termites and also augments the fertility of the soil. The use of Pongamia glabra is well known for termite control (Bunders Joske; Haverkor Bertus and Hiemstra Wim (1996): Biopesticide Biotechnology, Building on Farmers’ Knowledge, London and Basingstoke, Macmillan Education Ltd, pp. 52-79).
