Details |
Twenty-two-year-old Ranjit Kumar Panda is a high school drop-out. Ranjit takes keen interest in art, painting, mechanics and welding. But he has received no formal training in any of his vocations so far. At present, he is working in an iron-welding workshop. He has acquired tremendous skill in welding iron, making iron grilles of various designs, gates, arches and household items, thanks to his innovative mind.
While working in the workshop, Ranjit faced some practical problems.. For manually cutting iron rods into small pieces with help of a hammer or beating the rods on an iron platform into shape, small chipped pieces are bound to fly and may injure the worker or those in close range. To solve this problem, Ranjit made a device which collects all flying iron pieces. This device looks like a small table and is half-a-foot in height. Its top is not flat, but curved and shaped like a hood. This safety hood prevents the iron pieces from flying. Thus welders and those doing centering work in building construction can thus be protected. |
