Title Kaincha fruits as oral contraceptives

Details Fruits of “Kaincha”, Crabs’ eye (Abrus precatorius L.) are dried, powdered and consumed to avoid pregnancy. Ms Barala has tested it on three patients. She grows this plant in her backyard and has been following this and other similar practices she learnt from her elders. Oral administration of a 50% ethanol extract of Abrus precatorius seeds (250 mg/kg) in albino rats for 30 and 60 days induced infertility (reversible) in males.
