Title Warding off domestic pests

Details In villages, snakes, lizards, and rats hide in the crevices and burrows in living rooms. Farmers of Orissa drive them out by the herbal way. They close all the doors and windows of their living rooms and fumigate the rooms with turmeric fumes. They do this by simply adding turmeric powder to a small fire started in an earthen pot. After some time they throw the doors and windows open to allow snakes, if any, to go out. Besides, the fumes of burning turmeric are very useful for sterilizing a room in which chronic cholera and TB patients are convalescing. In fact, during epidemics like cholera, villagers fumigate their rooms with turmeric fumes.
