Title Curing skin infections

Details Apara Barik, 90 years from Orissa has been following the age-old practices of her ancestors. She has been treating her own children as well as helping other community members with daily problems. For body rashes, swelling and itching of the skin, she makes a herbal paste by mixing the fruits of ‘Harida’ (Terminalia chebula Retz.), ‘Bahada’ (Terminalia bellirica (Gaertn.) Roxb.) and ‘Amla’ (Emblica officinalis Gaertn.). The fruits are dried, powdered, and soaked in water over night. This water is used to bathe babies to cure skin infections. All the three dry fruits have abundant bio-vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. These can be used for skin disorders like eczema, vitiligo, dry skin, acne, pimples of face (http://ayurvedanta.com/product_details.aspx?Pname= biotone%5Cbiotone). Dried 'Kooth' (Saussurea costus (Falc.) Lipsch.) ground to powder and mixed with water can be applied to wounds. This can also help in treating skin infections. The plant is an antiseptic and also used in skin diseases (http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Saussurea+costus; http://www.holisticonline.com/Herbal-Med/_Herbs/h167.htm) Scouted during the 19th Shodhyatra organised by SRISTI.
