Mustard to the rescue |
Details |
A few plants of mustard (Brassica campestris) grown in between finger millet (ragi) reduce the extent of pest attack on the millet crop. Aphids and ladybird beetles are attracted to the mustard and, thus, leave the ragi alone. In addition to this, inter-cropping of mustard acts as a fall back option for farmers if ragi fails.
(NAPDB: Brassica campestris has larvicidal (Ref: EshitaY et al (1978) Eisei Dobutsu 29:34) and antifungal (Cheong NE et al Physiol.Plant.101(3):583-590) properties) |
