Title Storage of Legumes

Details Horse gram (Dolichos biflorus) and lentil (Lens culinaris) are highly susceptible to storage pests. To minimize damage, the famers of the hill district coat the legumes with cow urine before keeping them in storage bins. Walnut (Juglans regia) leaves can also be used for storage grain pest control. The leaves are kept on the top of the storage bins before they are sealed. Neem leaves, quick lime, common salt and asafoetida are also used for storing grain. (NAPDB: The whole plant of Juglans regia is used as an insecticide (Ref: Yazdanpanah R (1985) Abstr.Internat.Res. Congr.Nat Prod,Univ N Carolina,Chapel Hill, NC, p. 196))
