In Tehri Garwal, farmers apply FYM (farm yard manure) after the germination of the wheat crop, instead of the research recommendation of incorporating eight tonnes FYM/ha at the time of field preparation. Similarly, they use 30 kg seed/ha instead of the research recommendation of 10 kg seed/ha in case of finger millet and barnyard millet.
They mix a local variety of toria (Brassica napus) that matures early along with the main wheat crop sown in September. As soon as the toria matures in December, before the snow fall, the crop is harvested by uprooting the main plant.
