Title Control of fruit borers of brinjal

Details Brinjal is considered a delicacy in northern part of Karnataka. Brinjal curry (Oodee Kayee Palya) is eaten with bajra roties with great relish. But raising brinjal is no easy task. Brinjal is prone to shoot and fruit borer attacks. The borers (Lucinodes orbonalis G) usually enter the fruits as caterpillars and pupate inside. Bharamegowda says, intercropping brinjal with ‘sabbasige’ checks the borers. The stinging odour of ‘sabbasige’ acts as a repellent against the pest.
